My conceptual approach to clothing assemblage informs the wearable designs of brand S’AMUSE®. Although the two art forms have differing aesthetics, impulses and functions they both extend the ever-evolving relationship between dress and body. My CONCEPTUAL APPAREL often juxtaposes materials from our popular culture against references from fashion history and seeks to transform conventions of dress codes into exaggerated narratives of the human figure. My art presents dress that utilizes 18th Century BUSTLES, CORSETS AND LACING to bring back what was once considered to be attire for the courts but that can reveal identity in contemporary theatrical tones. Clothing for me is like poetry and has the potential to embody aspects of human identity while challenging definitions of beauty through the devices of artifice and manipulating intuitively with the unexpected. FASHION as ARTifice is a perfect vehicle to conceptualize reality of the human form with that of a polyglot fantasy world. This allows the work to be estranged from conventions and the pressures of fashion markets. My Eco-conscious brand S’AMUSE® produces designs for slow consumption keeping high quality, longevity and style entwined. This sustainable approach to ECO-DESIGN has its visual roots at the very basis of some of my creations.
