This collection of clothing made by Samantha T.K is an adventure into the past while keeping a finger on the pulse of contemporary culture. These garments are made mostly from the New York Times newspaper, along with other New England papers, recycled clothes and muslin, which way back in the 1770's became the common cotton we know today. Sam TK's designs fuse the 18th century undergarments of corsets and panniers, along with her eccentric riffs on bustles, frockcoats, vests, hats and trousers. This collection of newspaper attire spurs style with humor. It reminds us how we define ourselves through our rituals, the rituals of dress, the rituals of reading the paper, how fashion describes tribal belonging and the need to connect with the world in its unraveling global drama. These designs play with these subtexts as they take form on the human figure…
